Switzerland ranked at the top of the ranking Ranking of the best countries according to US News & World Report both globally and for a comfortable retirement. Switzerland also tops the list for its “open for business” country, that is, the most business-friendly, and for its head office. Switzerland also topped last year’s Best Countries ranking, which analyzes 87 countries on criteria such as entrepreneurship and quality of life.
“Switzerland is not necessarily known as the most affordable country, and it is quite expensive, at least compared to its neighbors and other countries in Europe,” said Devon Haynie, deputy editor of US News & World Report, at Insider.
“But people are really big fans of Switzerland,” she said, pointing out that Switzerland is ranked as the most economically stable, secure and least corrupt country.
Portugal, Australia and New Zealand also rank among the best countries for a comfortable retirement due to their health care programs, social security, pensions and cost of living. The list was based on how people perceive countries’ affordability, fiscal environment, friendliness, climate and healthcare systems. The United States ranks 30th on the list of comfortable retirements, while seven of the top ten are in Europe.
The United States ranks first among the best countries to start a career, ranking third behind Germany and Canada. The United States ranks fifth on the list of best countries to start a business, followed by India, Thailand, China and Mexico. In the overall ranking of the best countries, the United States also ranks fifth.
