2nd International Forum for Women’s Entrepreneurship – Georgiadis: Network of measures for faster absorption of women into the labor market

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security plans a comprehensive network of measures and actions for faster integration of women into the labor market, Adonis Georgiadis said at the 2nd International Women’s Entrepreneurship Forum on Saturday.
The Forum is organized by the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the National Network of Chambers of Women Entrepreneurs, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Attica Region and the Municipality of Athens.

As Georgiadis pointed out, women are underrepresented in the workforce and the gender pay gap is real.

According to the minister, the objective is to reduce unemployment among women and bring their participation in the labor market closer to the European average. At the same time, Georgiadis stressed that greater participation of women in the labor market could be part of the solution to the problem of finding work, a problem that, according to him, is increasing, as the development of the economy Greece is constantly generating new jobs, so the pressure to fill them is intensifying. Additionally, the labor force is shrinking year over year due to population aging and demographics, reducing the available labor “pool.”
The Minister of Labor stressed that the framework of initiatives envisaged by the ministry to increase the participation of women in the labor market concerns not only the bonus policy, but also requalification and development programs, while encouraging teleworking of women.

Georgiadis notably stressed that the social partners are actively involved in planning programs, so that they respond to the real needs of the labor market.
