Greece is the natural gateway to Europe and beyond, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Wednesday during the opening speech of the annual “Raisina Dialogue” in New Delhi, ANA reports.
Mitsotakis spoke of the long partnership between Greece and India “between the oldest democracy in the world and the largest democracy in the world”, and added that “Greece can serve as an interlocutor between India and Europe “. He also invited Indian businesses to join Greece and said Greece and India, whose ties spanned millennia, shared the same values and were closer than ever. “Greece is doing well and we are telling Indian companies to come with us on this journey,” he stressed.
India, he said, is an example for the world to be known in terms of strong economic development, solidarity and prosperity. “Today, India is a global power, a leading player,” he said, adding that strengthening EU-India relations should be a key objective for Europe , just like for Greece.
Mitsotakis mentioned the similarities between the two countries in terms of shared values and reform efforts.
The Greek Prime Minister also highlighted that Greece has “one of the highest development rates in the Eurozone and the fastest debt reduction in terms of GDP”, despite being described as a “country of the year” for his achievements. “I am proud to speak to you today about a different Greece,” he declared, adding however: “We still have a lot to do until 2030.” He also discussed investments between the countries, including Indian investment in the new Kasteli airport in Crete.
