A protest rally in Syntagma Square ended Tuesday evening with farmers across Greece calling on the government to meet their demands, ANA reports.
At least 6,500 participants with more than 160 tractors and agricultural machines were present in Syntagma, according to estimates, while 112 buses transported farmers from several regions to Athens.
Their constant demands included lowering the price of fuel, lowering the cost of electricity to 7 cents/KW and subsidies for fertilizers, animal feed and equipment. They said the measures announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his meeting with the Panhellenic Blockade Committee were not enough.
Farmers also spoke of cheap imports from third countries, of dubious quality and resold at higher prices than Greek products. “This year, when our animal capital was reduced, where did the milk come from, and not only that, the price paid to farmers fell?”
