Lancôme collaborates with the Louvre for a new skincare and make-up collection

The Louvre Museum and Lancôme (a L’oreal brand) are teaming up to create a new skincare and makeup collection inspired by nine masterpieces of sculpture, as well as the lights and colors of the museum.

The Lancôme x Louvre launch campaign was shot at the Louvre Museum, featuring the “faces” of the brand Zendaya, Aya Nakamura, Amanda Seyfried and He Cong. Images of the beauty of modern times, these four women “espouse and embody the stylistic codes and myths of certain iconic sculptures”.

The Louvre, a source of inspiration

For this partnership, Lancôme was inspired by the Venus de Milo, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, Corinne, the Diana of Gabii, the Nymph with the Scorpion, Echo, Hygeia, the Venus of Arles and the sleeping Hermaphrodite. Each of these sculptures, through its history and the myth it represents, inspired Lisa Eldridge, Global Creative Director of Lancôme Makeup, to create this makeup collection.

“I am delighted with this first collaboration with Lancôme, which highlights with incredible talent the diversity of forms of beauty found in the collections of the Louvre, a dialogue between cultures and civilizations that transcends time and geography,” said Laurence des Cars, president and director of the Louvre Museum. “With this collaboration, the Louvre, as an artistic space of modern times, contributes to the rewriting of beauty in the present.”

“By continuing the dialogue between our French brand, which has a history of nearly 90 years, and the most emblematic temple of art, we want to continue to rely on our artistic heritage to open up new horizons of beauty for women in the world. ‘today and celebrate the fact that beauty is in perpetual motion,’
remarked Françoise Lehmann, global brand president of Lancôme.

Launching on September 1, the collection includes a palette, serum and lipstick.

The Lancôme x Louvre Richelieu Wing Palette ($89) celebrates the sculpture of Corine, a 5th-century BC Greek poetess featured in the Richelieu Wing of the Louvre. The poetry of this palette created by Lisa Eldridge is inspired by the magnetic light of the gallery, punctuated by the relief of the sculptures and “revealing their silent but astonishing beauty”, specifies the brand.

The collection is available on the Lancôme website and at Lancôme counters at Macy’s, Dillard’s, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales.
