Renovations are underway at a former CVS Pharmacy building on Main Street in Johnson City.
The Rhode Island-based company closed its store near Wilson Medical Center more than a year ago.
Crews recently began emptying out what was left in the vacant building and making some changes to the infrastructure outside the structure.
United Health Services will use the 10,000-square-foot building as a new location for its retail pharmacy near Wilson Medical Center.
It will replace a much smaller neighboring facility currently operating in Wilson Square at 52 Harrison Street.
UHS spokeswoman Carrie Davis said the new retail and specialty pharmacy will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The location is just northwest of a massive expansion under construction to the hospital.
The new pharmacy will have a drive-thru pickup window. It will be open to the public.
The facility is also expected to be used by UHS as a vaccination center. It is scheduled to open early next year.
