Uh oh. Depending on the choice of diplomas, three of the most dangerous college campuses in the country are in Pennsylvania.
Campus safety and security data from 2019 to 2021 was reviewed by the Department of Education to compile a list of the 27 most dangerous college campuses in America for 2023.
I know this is a difficult subject to talk about, but, If you are looking for universities for your child, you should definitely check out this list.
In 1986, a student, Jeanne Clery, was raped and murdered at Lehigh University. There were 38 violent crimes over 3 years at this college. Clery’s parents sued the school (and won) claiming that if they had known the number of horrific crimes that had occurred there, they would never have sent their daughter there.
In 1990, the Cléry law began, requiring schools that receive federal aid to report crimes on and around their campuses annually.
There are so many things to consider when trying to choose the best colleges, academics, social life, sports, to name a few, but safety should be at the top of your list.
As a parent, the first thing that concerns me is the safety of my children.
I must say that I was a little surprised by the extent of crime on college campuses. THE article states that in 2019 alone, 27,300 violent crimes were reported, including “forcible sex crimes, burglaries, auto thefts, aggravated assaults, and robberies.” Yeah. It’s incredibly scary.
So what are the Pennsylvania schools that made the most dangerous list?
Landing at #7 is Pennsylvania State University.
Drexel University, the city’s university campus is #18.
Pennsylvania State University is in 27th place.
