    Transformative summer for Greek-American students

    EbrahimBy EbrahimMarch 4, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

The Heritage Greece program, initiated by the National Hellenic Society (NHS), aims to provide Greek-American and Canadian students with a unique cultural and educational immersion in Greece during the summer of 2024. The program aims to connect participants with their Hellenic roots through a series of tailor-made activities, including visits to important historical sites, Greek language lessons and interactions with local students.

The Heritage Program in Greece is an immersive experience

Designed as a gift from the NHS to students of Hellenic descent in America, the Heritage Greece program develops a comprehensive program that combines educational activities and cultural experiences. Participants will benefit from a vantage point of classical museums and archaeological sites and participate in a variety of cultural activities ranging from dance to cooking classes. This immersive experience is not only about exploring Greece’s rich heritage, but also about creating a vibrant and inclusive community that keeps Greek identity alive and relevant for future generations.

Objective: preserve Greek culture for the next generation

According to NHS President Drake G. Behrakis, the program is particularly aimed at instilling a deep appreciation of Greek culture in students, many of whom may be visiting Greece for the first time. By facilitating daily interactions with their Greek peers at the American College of Greece, the program ensures that participants become fully immersed in local culture, understanding the nuances of contemporary Greek life while exploring their own heritage and traditions.

    Create lasting connections and networks

One of the essential aspects of the Heritage Greece program is its ability to foster lasting relationships between participants, as well as between students and the wider NHS network. Through shared experiences and learning, students not only delve into their cultural roots, but also become part of a supportive community that extends beyond the duration of the program. The NHS provides ongoing opportunities for career guidance, mentoring and engagement, ensuring that the impact of the Heritage Greece experience resonates with participants in their future endeavors.

The Heritage Greece program provides an unprecedented opportunity for Greek American and Canadian students to explore their heritage in a deeply personal and impactful way. Through educational enrichment, cultural immersion, and community building, the program strives to keep the Hellenic spirit vibrant and meaningful for generations to come.
