Women-Led Social Enterprise Pitch Competition Returns to Motor City for Its 5th Anniversary
DETROIT, September 6, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — 1863 Companiesan independent, Black-led national venture capital and business development accelerator, and Fund of the Ford automobile companythe philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company, is delighted to announce the HI-HERImpact pitch competitiona shark tank-style social entrepreneurship pitch competition, returns to its roots in Detroit for his 5th Birthday on Thursday September 28, 2023.
The competition awarded grants totaling more than $300,000 to various social enterprises led by women and based in Detroit, Miami, Washington, D.C. And Kansas City since its inception in 2018. Past winners were invited to compete again, commemorating the past five years of growth and support for women entrepreneurs working to solve problems within their communities.
Among the 24 past winners, five finalists were selected to present their business as part of the HI-HERImpact anniversary competition for a chance to win a grand prize of $50,000. Spanning a wide range of sectors, including consumer products, healthcare, services and technology, this year’s competition features a dynamic lineup of competitors:
- Alecia Gabriel, based in Detroit is the innovator of The laboratory drawer which aims to ensure that young people from disadvantaged communities have access to STEM education
- Anastasia Mikhalochkina, founder of Lean Orb Co.. In Miamioffers sustainable solutions to combat single-use plastics through compostable food packaging.
- Arion Longsituated at Washington, D.C. is the creator of the organic menstrual care brand, Feminine.
- Brittany Rhodesfounder of Black Girl MATHgic in Detroitoffers a monthly subscription box that encourages confidence in math.
- Lisa Raganrepresentative Kansas City created a brand of hypoallergenic snacks, Delicious and safe.

This year’s event will be held in collaboration with Newlab @ Michigan Central, an ecosystem supporting local communities. Detroit startups and entrepreneurs to develop their activities. In addition to the competition, 1863 Ventures will host an engaging panel discussion on the importance of social entrepreneurship with business leaders from around the world. Detroit area. The winners will be determined by a distinguished jury who will award prizes $50,000 for first place, $25,000 for second place and $15,000 for third place. To add to the excitement, this year’s competition will also include a People’s Choice winner to be determined by both in-person participants and those tuning in via the 1863 Ventures live stream on Youtube. This winner will receive a $5,000 grant for their business needs.
