Tornos news | AP report: Tourists pack European hotspots boosted by Americans

    EbrahimBy EbrahimAugust 22, 2023No Comments1 Min Read

Tourists wait more than two hours to visit the Acropolis of Athens. Taxi lines at Rome’s main train station run just as long. And so many visitors concentrate around Piazza San Marco in Venice that crowds are blocked from crossing bridges, even on weekdays.

After three years of pandemic limitations, tourism is set to surpass 2019 records in some of Europe’s most popular destinations this summer, from Barcelona and Rome, Athens and Venice to the scenic islands of Santorini in Greece, Capri in Italy and Mallorca in Spain.

While European tourists pushed the industry towards recovery last year, this summer’s recovery is largely led by Americans, boosted by a strong dollar and, in some cases, pandemic economies. Many arrive motivated by “revenge tourism” – so eager to explore again that they aren’t intimidated by rising airfares and hotel fees.
