NEW YORK – Greek-American billionaire John Catsimatidis is strengthening his team before another possible candidacy for mayor next year. The business mogul was spotted meeting with potential strategists and advisors, including Rob Cole, advisor to Governor George Patakiduring lunch at Empire Steakhouse Tuesday, New York Post reports.
Catsimatidis ran for mayor in 2013, using $10 million of his own fortune, but lost to former Metropolitan Transit Authority head Joe Lhota in the primary. “I still have one more run left in me,” he told the New York Post in November.
On Tuesday, Catsimatidis told the Post: “We’ve been meeting with people for 15 or 20 days to possibly include them in the campaign if we show up. »
Catsimatidis is chairdresser and CEO of the Red Apple group, which is among the largest private companies in the country, with 8,000 employees and an estimated annual turnover of $4.3 billion. Red Apple has interests in oil refining, petroleum retailing, convenience stores, supermarkets and real estate. With a major focus on energy, Catsimatidis’ fortunes accelerated with rising oil prices.
