Tornos news | Bourtzi Castle in the Greek city of Nafplio reopens to the public

The Ministry of Culture and the Hellenic Society of Public Properties announced on Thursday that Bourtzi Castle in Nafplio will be open to the public as a cultural and recreational monument accessible from Saturday August 5, ANA reports.

Admission will be free until August 17 and from Friday August 18 visitors will need to purchase a ticket.
The monument has undergone extensive restoration and maintenance in all authentic parts of the fortress.

Bourtzi will be open to visitors every day from Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The island fortress of Bourtzi is a Venetian castle located in the middle of the port of Nafplion. It was built by Antonio Gambello, an architect from Bergamo, in 1471, although its construction was completed by the engineer Brancaleone. The design was made specifically to fit the narrow shape of the islet, and at first it was used as a small castle where an executioner lived and put prisoners to death.
