The polling stations in which Greeks residing outside Greek territory and registered on the special electoral lists will vote for the legislative elections on June 25 have been established. However, the diaspora vote will take place on Saturday June 24.
The number of polling stations created is three more than that planned for the elections of May 21, 2023, i.e. 102, against 99, since the number of registered on special electoral lists abroad is now 25,610, i.e. 2,755 more than the 22,855 eligible in the previous round.
Polling stations were set up in the same countries and cities, although one polling station was established in Vancouver, Canada, while the one in Kaunas, Lithuania was removed.
A polling station has also been added in Brussels (four in total), London (nine) and Luxembourg (two).
On May 20, 18,203 of the 22,855 registered voters finally went to the polling station (participation rate of 79.65%).
It should be noted that the electoral procedure is different during the legislative elections of June 25 compared to those of May 21.
According to the Ministry of the Interior:
* The legislative elections of June 25, 2023 will take place using reinforced proportional voting, unlike those of May 21 which took place using simple proportional voting.
* The next elections will be held on the basis of a reserved combination (list) and not on the basis of a preference crossover. According to this procedure, deputies are elected on the basis of their ranking on the ballot papers in each constituency, which is determined by the headquarters of the respective party. Therefore, voters do NOT put crosses on party ballots. In addition, there will be no pens on the screens of the polling stations that will be created.
* Ballots used in the May 21, 2023 election will not remain valid. The legislative elections of June 25, 2023 will take place with new ballot papers, which will be printed in accordance with the provisions of the law in force.
* Greeks abroad can vote in their place of residence if the application for registration on the special electoral lists has been submitted on the competent platform of the Ministry of the Interior (https://apodimoi.gov.gr) before on Wednesday May 17, 2023. it is specified that the criteria as defined by the law in force are applied for the approval of the request.
* Greeks abroad who voted from their place of residence in the May 21 elections and who will be in Greece for the June 25 elections will be able to vote in their country of origin, provided they have submitted an application suspension of registration in special electoral lists abroad until Friday May 26, 2023. Any candidacy submitted after this date will not be taken into account for the upcoming electoral process. In all cases, voters are advised to refer to the Ministry of the Interior’s platform “Know where you are voting” to find out where to vote.
