The PM is ready with a file on the diaspora

Diaspora’s role in India’s growth to feature in PM’s community address in US

    #Washington:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak on the role of the diaspora in India’s development during his address to Indian-Americans next week, according to a community leader responsible for hosting the event.
Prime Minister Modi will visit the United States from June 21 to 24 at the invitation of US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. They will host Modi at a state dinner on June 22. The visit also includes a speech to the joint session of Congress on June 22.
Chicago-based Dr Bharat Barai, who was at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington DC on Wednesday to finalize next week’s event, said it would be a sold-out event, with Registrations are closed for the 838 places.
“Regarding registrations, they are closed for the host committee as well as for other people. We had an extraordinary response, all by word of mouth, because we only had 838 seats. So we didn’t have the time or capacity if we advertised outside,” Barai said. “We used the database we had from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s previous public meetings, and even before we could contact people, they contacted us and everything is filled,” he said. Modi will address an invitation-only gathering of diaspora leaders from across the country at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington on June 23.
“The topic will be the role of the diaspora in the growth of India. We want to see what we can do as a diaspora to help India and the Indian people adapt to the new place in the world,” Barai said.
Noting that the event will have very few cultural elements, he said the organizers wanted to make it above all an engagement between the diaspora and those in power.
