The year 2023 saw the Greek energy market break new records in penetration of renewable energy sources (RES) and reduction in energy consumption, according to information revealed by the Athens News Agency – Macedonian (ANA) and published on Saturday, despite a year marked by economic difficulties. growth and a drop in prices compared to the peak of the energy crisis, reports ANA.
In a statement to ANA, Independent Electricity Transmission Operator (IPTO) Chief Executive Officer Manos Manousakis said “green” electricity generation combined with large hydropower reached 57%. of total electricity production in 2023 (of which 47.9% was RES and 9.09% hydro), beating the previous record of 2022. This is the result of investments in new RES units and development new networks necessary for the transport of “green” energy.
