Greek consumers will benefit from price reductions of up to 18.1% on more than 3,000 supermarket products starting Friday when government measures to combat inflation and foster strong competition throughout the supply chain will be adopted, reports ANA.
According to the Ministry of Development, the estimated price cuts will result from a reform requiring suppliers to reduce their offers to retailers by 30%, with the obligation to reduce their list prices by the same amount. This resulted in discounts on over 3,000 products. Of these, reductions for 1,500 products had reached the ministry before the council of ministers which announced the reductions.
Affected categories include general household cleaning products (laundry detergents, dish detergents, all-purpose surface cleaners, bleaches) and personal hygiene products (shampoos and conditioners, body washes, soaps, toothpaste , diapers for babies and children).
The reform led to a significant drop in average prices in seven product categories. Concretely, for infant formula, the reductions are around 15%; for baby and child diapers, the average price reduction is 18.1%; for shampoos, body washes and conditioners, it’s 17%; for toothpaste, it is 15.1%; for laundry detergents, it’s 15.6%; for dishwashing detergents, it’s 16%; for all-purpose surface cleaners it is 15.8% and for soaps it is 12.7%.
