The Greek government is expected to launch a pilot application allowing the use of bank cards and smartphones to board public transport, in addition to tickets and passes, ANA reports.
With the signing of a contract between OASA and the project contractor, member of the TERNA ENERGY Group, for the technological upgrade of the automatic fare collection system, a new era has begun for the transport services offered to the public.
Based on an announcement from OASA, the Athens Public Transport Organization, the service upgrade will allow the use of bank cards and mobile devices to travel on public transport under the authority of the Organization (metro, tram, bus, streetcars) and will provide the system with the capacity to support MaaS (Mobility as a Service), interface with mobility partner applications, such as taxis, rental electric bikes, airlines and ferry companies, etc.
