Special day of action and support dedicated to advocating for the estimated 4.7 million Latino business owners who contribute to their communities and America’s economic engine
, September 14, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Supporting Latin American businesses (SLB), a community-founded nonprofit organization dedicated to providing resources and opportunities to Latino small businesses, officially announces the fourth annual Support Latino Business Day tomorrow, Wednesday September 14, 2022. Intentionally kick off Hispanic Heritage Month a day early (September 15-October 15), Support Latino Business Day highlights the transformative impact of the biggest contributors to our nation’s economy: Latino small businesses.
Powered by volunteers and community advocates, Support Latino Business engages mayors across the country to formally recognize and celebrate the significant contributions of Latino businesses to local communities. September 14 and every day. Participating city mayors in support of Latino Business Day 2022 include: Austin Mayor Steve Adler, Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall, Tampa Mayor Jeanne Castor, Washington, D.C. Mayor Murial Bouserand over 50 others.

In addition to working with local leaders to galvanize support for Latino-led businesses, Support Latino Business partners with Latino-focused organizations to provide mentoring, networking and unrestricted grants to small business owners to that they reinvest in their businesses. With support from SLB, Poderistas organized the 2022 Jefa Nation Grant to give Latino entrepreneurs and jefas poderosas the opportunity to receive resources to help them grow and grow their businesses.
Additionally, honoring and celebrating diverse small businesses across the country and opening Support Latino Business Day are applications for the second annual #SupportSmallBiz grant in partnership with Small Business Majority.
“Hispanic Americans are highly entrepreneurial, starting businesses twice as fast as native-born Americans, and creating significant opportunities through job creation,” said Xiomara Pena, Vice President, Engagement, Small Business Majority. “We know that Latino small business owners help grow the economy by meeting workforce needs, purchasing goods and paying taxes. And despite facing enormous challenges accessing federal aid during the pandemic, this community has persevered and launched new businesses at historic rates.
