The HOME Project, an organization providing shelter and support to refugee children, announced a first-of-its-kind initiative to provide 18 young refugees in Greece with full-time scholarships to attend American Community Schools of Athens (ACS Athens) in during the year 2018. -Academic year 2019. The refugee students, who will come from the HOME project, will be enrolled in an inclusive educational program at ACS Athens.
Students will take courses in English and Greek as foreign languages, mathematics, computer science and arts subjects such as theater and music. Students will also be assessed at regular intervals throughout the academic year.
The scholarships are the result of a collaboration between: the HOME project, which currently houses more than 220 refugee children in 11 shelters; the Shapiro Foundation, which funds various initiatives in favor of refugees and will provide funding for ACS Athens scholarships; and ACS Athens. ACS Athens is an international private school teaching grades K-12 with an American educational philosophy. Tuition and fees at ACS Athens typically amount to over 10,000 euros per academic year.
