The Semaphore Greek Festival is set to return next January as it once again showcases the best of Greek culture across South Australia, this time with the positive theme ‘Semaphore Smiles: (#sema4smiles).
The weekend-long festival, hosted by the Greek Orthodox Nativity of Christ Community, Port Adelaide and Environs, under the auspices of the South Australian Government and the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, returns for its 43rd edition January 13 and 14. , 2024.
The volunteer-run event, to be held at Semaphore Foreshore, will once again host a beautiful display of Hellenic heritage through traditional cuisine, dance and performances from some of Adelaide’s best Greek-Australian artists.
Port Adelaide Greek Orthodox Community president John Douvartzidis said this year’s festival theme, ‘Semaphore Smiles’, is another sign of the connection between Hellenic culture and all of South Australia.
“This theme is a tribute not only to our rich Greek heritage, but it also reflects the joy and unity that radiates across our diverse South Australian community,” Mr Douzartzidis said.
The President said the theme recognizes the joy that everyone experiences through this event, from all the volunteers who make it a success to all the guests from diverse backgrounds who participate.
“From the tireless smiles of our dedicated volunteers to the sunny smiles that light up Semaphore in the summer, each smile is a symbol of our deep connection to culture and the joy it brings,” he said.

In addition to its dedicated volunteers, the Festival receives considerable support from many places, primarily from the South Australian Government and Port Adelaide Enfield Council.
