New orchard (New York, United States) Restored in June 2022
Hip and Historic Restored Bank on the Lower East Side
High ceilings, historic architectural details and cool mid-century style have transformed the restored Jarmulowsky Bank into a vibrant Lower East Side neighborhood hotel. Built within the grounds of the Bank of Fine Arts, this century-old building has been redesigned while keeping its original charm intact. Working from designs dating back to 1912, the lobby features a large arched window, ornamental ceiling, and Tennessee marble floors. The 113 vintage-inspired rooms feature pine floors, handmade ceramic lamps, and original artwork from local artists. All rooms feature oversized windows that flood the hotel with light and offer views of the city and New York skyline. The restaurants, Swan Room and Corner Bar, are helmed by Michelin-starred chef Ignacio Mattos, who brings his signature and refined approach to the Nine Orchard dining experience.
The Georgian (Santa Monica, United States) Restored in April 2023
Distinguished gem on the Southern California coast
With a history spanning more than nine decades, this distinguished turquoise facade on Ocean Avenue is the meeting point for the best in art, music, design and cuisine. Originally built in 1933 and attracting Old Hollywood stars like Clark Gable and Charlie Chaplin, this colorful Art Deco hotel has been sensitively and creatively restored by the renowned Fettle Design Studio, retaining many original features. The 84 rooms are decorated in understated beach-chic tones with characterful decor touches, and many offer stunning ocean views. Two charming restaurants explore Italy’s rich culinary heritage: The Georgian Room, an Italian steakhouse, cocktail and piano bar that offers low-key dining, and The Restaurant at The Georgian, helmed by chef David Almany, is a brunch favorite and offers beautiful views of the ocean.

In addition to Villa Belrose’s indoor-outdoor restaurant, Le Méditerranée, the latest addition to the hotel is the Club L’Indochine from the NGO The Duc. A large outdoor swimming pool, a spa offering products from the Swiss brand Niance and panoramic active trails make it an ideal destination for wellness enthusiasts. Perched above the hustle and bustle of Saint-Tropez and close to vineyards and beautiful hilltop villages, this elegant hideaway offers an elevated French Riviera experience.

A modern interpretation of Greek hospitality
Combining elegant, contemporary architecture with serene Greek authenticity, Avant Mar recently opened its doors on Greece’s most famous island destination: Paros. Just a 5-minute walk from charming Naoussa and a short walk from Piperi Beach, this gracious Cycladic hotel offers 38 simply elegant rooms, including seven suites with plunge pools. At the center of the complex, a 180-foot swimming pool provides a calm focal point and connection to the Aegean Sea. Restaurants include the island’s first Nobu-style restaurant, a casual all-day concept and a patisserie inspired by Greek flavors. Clifftop palace blending history and contemporary elegance
Renovated with refinement and care, this ancient Getxo palace overlooks the Basque coast and the port of Bilbao. Built in 1912, this aristocratic country house was once the venue for elegant social gatherings. Now its 49 gracious rooms and extraordinary grounds, including a panoramic terrace with swimming pool and a championship croquet lawn, will welcome guests in a distinctively designed setting. Retaining many original features such as turn-of-the-century stained glass, reclaimed artwork and marquetry, the historic architecture is infused with modern design and comfort. The state-of-the-art Neguri Spa offers marine-inspired treatments, massage cabins and water circuits. Celebrated Basque chef Benat Ormaeatxea presents innovative fine dining at Delaunay restaurant, and in the old chapel you’ll find the Kupka cocktail bar.
Santavenere (Maratea, Italy)
Unexpected and unspoilt Italian coastal retreat
On a secluded cove of the Basilicata coastline, Santavenere is an ideal destination for those seeking unknown peace in sophisticated surroundings. Overlooking the sea, this 19th century Italian house exudes the atmosphere of a large family home. Each of the 34 rooms features beautifully preserved period furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries, such as ornate iron headboards and carved wooden chests of drawers. Surrounding the hotel are trails through the forested hills, accessible only through the hotel grounds, which are home to a rare saltwater swimming pool and a beautiful half-mile private beach. For an intimate hotel, there are plenty of dining options, from poolside restaurant Gli Ulivi to seaside Il Carrubo to fine dining at Lanterne.

The new avant-garde property was developed by owners and sisters, Sara and Elena Maestrelli, in collaboration with architects Piera Tempesti Benelli, Riccardo Burigana and Tiziano Folin. The 45-room hotel is within walking distance of St. Mark’s Basilica, Harry’s Bar and Rio San Moise. The property is home to one of the city’s finest art collections, ranging from historic to modern paintings, glassworks and fabrics, and features antique tiles and original Venetian seminato flooring.
