The official inauguration of the new Digital Museum of Greek Immigration to Canada took place on Friday, May 24 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, according to greekreporter.com.
Part of ImmiGrec and supported by the Greek Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), the new museum has developed a massive online digital portal encompassing the entire Greek-Canadian immigrant experience, from Greece to the vast country of ‘North America.
The event was organized by McGill University and concerns the first phase of the Center for the Study of Immigration and the Greek Diaspora.
The inauguration took place in the presence of members of the SNF as well as the Greek Ambassador to Canada, Dimitris Azemopoulos.
According to ImmiGrec, “the Virtual Museum unveils Greek history in Canada by providing access to timelines, interactive maps and historical commentaries, archival databases and links to relevant sources.”
Greek immigration to Canada dates back to the early 20th century, as part of a broader transatlantic exodus of people from Southern and Eastern Europe to America.
