Chinese culture has a long history, while Greek culture has a great and wide influence. Throughout history, our cultures have been located at opposite ends of the Eurasian continent, and in mutual admiration, they have always learned from and complemented each other, noted Chinese Ambassador to Greece Xiao Junzheng, in an article in the Athenian-Macedonian newspaper. According to Xiao Junzheng, “the golden age of ancient Greece, which gave birth to many philosophers and men of letters, coincided with the period of the Chinese “Hundred Schools of Thought”. The great Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis, who visited China twice, said that “Confucius and Socrates are two masks that cover the same face of human reason”. Our similar ideas and cultures, reflected in our exchanges , present to the world the harmony and beauty of mutual learning, mutual understanding and friendship. During his visit to Greece in 2019, President Xi Jinping and Greek leaders supported exchanges and mutual learning between cultures. Subsequently, both sides actively implemented the consensus reached, starting preparations for the establishment of the Center for Ancient Greek and Chinese Culture. The Greek Ministry of Education ensured the organization and coordination between the University of Athens, the University of Patras, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of Crete for the preparation and creation of the Greek section of the Center.
