Nearly ten years ago, startups in Nigeria were hard to find. In reality, it would be difficult for anyone to find even one. Today, there are more than 600 startups in the country, some of which are staffed by specialized domestic talent, such as programmers, and collaborate with companies in Europe, the United States and Asia, ANA reports.
The Nigerian example is characteristic in that new technologies – combined with adequate infrastructure to develop innovation – can give impetus to innovative entrepreneurship, even in areas where it does not initially seem easy.
These observations were made during a panel on “Breaking Boundaries: Catalysizing Innovation Transfer for a Thriving Africa”, during the Greek House Davos 2024 initiative in the context of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The panel included Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, CEO and Founder of Joist Innovation Park, Tasos Vasileiadis, and Salas Group Chief Executive Officer, Nikos Salapataras, also president of the International Humanitarian Aid Foundation (IHAF). The panel was moderated by Rhett Power, editor-in-chief of Forbes.
