It will be a summer like no other for 40 students of Greek origin. After 14 successful years, followed by a brief pause due to the pandemic, the Pan-Messinian Federation of the United States and Canada and the University of the Peloponnese are organizing the 2023 Summer School of Greek Language and Culture in the beautiful city of Kalamata.

This four-week program (July 9-August 4) includes lessons in Greek language, culture and history, as well as educational tours of ancient Olympia, Mycenae, Nestor’s Palace, the Theater of Epidaurus (to watch a play), Ancient Messina, the Acropolis Archaeological Museum, the Kalamata Museums (military, cultural and archaeological), Mount Taygetos and the picturesque town of Pylos.

A typical day includes an academic course in the morning, followed by a guided tour of a local site or a daily excursion to some of the Peloponnese’s most iconic monuments. When not in class, students will enjoy a wide variety of exciting activities and entertainment, including a Greek evening (“γλέντι”), a race at the stadium of ancient Olympia, a boat cruise to ‘in Sapienza and, of course, endless swimming in the crystal clear waters of the most famous Messinian beaches.

The program is open to 40 students of Greek origin, aged 18 to 24, university students/graduates with some ability to communicate in Greek. It is also open to six Greek teachers who will assist students with their schoolwork. The registration fee ($1,000) covers four weeks of accommodation in university residences, training from experts from the Department of Literature, and several educational trips. Weekday breakfasts and lunches are also covered.

This is a unique opportunity to fully experience the province of Messinia and the Peloponnese peninsula. Learn, enjoy, immerse yourself in Hellenic life and culture and become an ambassador of Hellenism.
