Lloyd’s Register (LR) Maritime Decarbonization Center and five leading shipowners – leaders from Capital Group, Navios Maritime Partners, Neda Maritime Agency, Star Bulk and Thenamaris – launch global not-for-profit maritime emissions reduction center (M-ERC) in Athens to optimize the efficiency of the existing fleet, Lloyd’s said in a statement on Thursday, ANA reports.
“LR and the founding members believe that this is a significant initiative, which highlights the importance of Athens as an international maritime center,” the statement said, adding that “the M-ERC is created to eliminate technical, investment and community barriers for the adoption of solutions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the existing global fleet, thereby providing a “safe space” for collaboration for stakeholders in the chain of maritime value, to navigate safely towards net zero.
