Manos Konsolas, main Greek opposition party, head of the tourism sector for New Democracy, MP for Dodecanese stressed in a speech to the Greek Parliament that it is impossible to invest in tourism development projects on 80% of Greek territory and that the government remains hostile to investment and entrepreneurship.
Debate the bill on Land use planning and sustainable development in Greece, Mr. Konsolas Manos accused the left-wing SYRIZA-ANEL government of trying to control the Special land use plansin reference to Article 8 that the government sends another negative message to all those who want to invest in the tourism sector, particularly through significant and strategic investments.
Mr. Konsolas noted that this article seeks to obtain control from the Ministry of Environment and Energy over any investment effort or activity.
“It is envisaged that the Ministry of the Environment for Special Development Plans pre-approve all studies of a significant strategic investment, and also that the Central Council for Urban Affairs and Litigation give consent.
This therefore leads investors into a perpetual tension, forcing them to do studies to spend money with an uncertain result.
In this way, it is certain that there will be significant delays and obstacles for the implementation of a major strategic investment in the tourism sector and beyond.
“How can you hope to create an investment climate and a business climate under these conditions? “, asked the head of the tourism sector of New Democracy, the main Greek opposition party.
He also announced that the top priority of New Democracy is to configure and activate a Development Plan specific to Tourism noting that it is currently impossible to invest in tourism development projects on 80% of Greek territory
Referring to this Territorial plan for tourism Member of Parliament for Dodecanese Underlines:
“A new special spatial plan for tourism should be dynamic in nature rather than static.
It must meet modern needs and exploit Greece’s comparative advantages at national and regional levels.
It should not contain horizontal prohibitions but examine all cases separately.
It is expected to promote new tourism products and attract significant strategic investments in tourism, as it is these investments that will increase tourism revenues and attract high-income tourists.“.
