Arthritis Overview
“Arthritis” literally means inflammation of the joints. Joints are places where two bones meet, such as the elbow or knee.
There are many types of arthritis with different causes and treatments. In some types, other organs, such as the eyes, heart or skin, may also be affected.
Common symptoms of arthritis include pain, redness, warmth, and swelling of the joints.
If you have arthritis, it is important that your doctor diagnoses the type of arthritis you have so that you can receive the appropriate treatment. Fortunately, current treatments allow most people with arthritis to lead active, productive lives.
