Director’s Update
Dear friends,
The third quarter of 2023 has been a busy few months at the Assembly of Bishops. The Executive Committee met in early July and agreed to hold the next meeting of the Assembly of Bishops in Atlanta, Georgia, from September 28 to October 1, 2024. Atlanteans, save the date!
The Liturgy Committee formed a task force, led by Presbytera Melanie DiStefano, to collaborate with the Orthodox Christian Association of the Deaf on an official American Sign Language translation of the Divine Liturgy. The working group will also work on the accessibility of the Divine Liturgy for blind people.
The Church and Society Commission evaluated the results of the AoB survey on social issues. The survey overwhelmingly indicates that gender and sexuality are the top issues facing Orthodox Christians in the United States. The Committee therefore undertook research on the subject in order to better serve the community.
Along with our six agencies, the Assembly of Bishops participated in the Antioch Convention in Pheonix, Arizona. We were fortunate to receive a visit from Patriarch John of Antioch.
Following an investigation into the functionality of the Assembly of Bishops mobile application, an application development team was formed. The team analyzed the survey results and is planning the next phase of the application. Stay tuned!
The Interparish Association program started without problems. Seven (7) regions have expressed interest and are in the process of forming IPAs. Contact us if you are interested in more information or hoping to create an IPA in your area.
Finally, the Assembly received an “unreserved” opinion during its biennial audit (2021/2022). The audited statements can be consulted on the Assembly website.
Our projects and ministries are only possible with your support. Please consider becoming a monthly donor (Click here).
In prayer, yours,
Reverend Nicolas Anton
Director of Operations
