Video: Car swept away by sea as storm Daniel floods Greece

Storm Daniel has hit Greece since Monday

Greece is facing an extreme weather event as the country grapples with torrential rains leading to the flooding of homes, streets and businesses. Today, a video surfaced from Greece showing cars being swept into the sea by the fast-moving waters of Pelion.

According to a report from Independentpolice banned traffic in Volos town and Skiathos island until the storm subsides.

Storm Daniel, which has been hitting Greece since Monday, caused landslides, destroyed a bridge, collapsed electricity poles and swept dozens of cars into muddy waters, just days after a deadly forest fire in the north of the country.

At least two people died and three were missing Wednesday after torrential rain flooded homes and businesses and destroyed infrastructure in central Greece, firefighters said. Reuters.

The body of an elderly woman was found Wednesday near a community in the southern Pelion region of central Greece, firefighters said, bringing the death toll from bad weather in Greece to two.

“The body was found under a pile of wood,” a fire official told Reuters, adding that a rescue operation was continuing for three missing people.

Greece said the weather conditions were the most extreme in terms of the amount of precipitation since records were kept in the country.

On Wednesday, police issued traffic warnings for the towns of Trikala and Karditsa, as torrential rains were expected to intensify again later on Wednesday.

In 2017, flash floods killed 25 people and left hundreds homeless.
