The Rotary Media Foundation responded to a request from the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology to purchase a new electrocardiogram machine to train students in the clinical medical assisting program, according to Rotary.
State-of-the-art medical equipment is essential to provide proper training to students and the college’s EKGs are 10 years old.
Each new machine would cost $2,415. The Rotary Media Foundation board was prepared to provide a $1,215 grant and asked the District 7450 foundation for an additional $1,200 that would then fund a machine, Rotary said .
Jeannette Barr, the school’s director of development, requested a matching grant so that initial Rotary funds would quadruple and the university could purchase two machines.
“Approximately 85 percent of our students are low- and very-low-income women who will be able to use this equipment to complete their education, build rewarding careers and improve their financial well-being,” Barr said.
Rotary’s motto is “Serve First” and the foundation’s motto is “Doing Good in Our Community.” This donation embodies both slogans, Rotary said.
