The Greece Central School District is hosting a community forum Monday to discuss a proposal to build an athletic stadium on the Arcadia High School campus.
District spokeswoman Laurel Heiden said the forum is aimed primarily at members of the youth sports community, but is open to anyone interested in learning more about the plan.
District seeks voter approval in March to spend up to $1,0008.5 million for a multi-purpose stadium with a synthetic turf field and stadium lights. Currently, the district does not have lighted fields or artificial turf fields at any of its four high schools.
Building a stadium has been a topic in Greece for decades, but the community has never been asked to vote on a proposal to build one. About 78 percent of the construction cost would be reimbursed by the state, and the annual tax impact would be about $12 for the owner of a $100,000 home, if the project is approved.
The plan is to allow use of the stadium by all high schools in the district and not allow any school to claim it as a playing field. The district is planning a 2,600-seat facility that resembles LeBeau Stadium in the school district neighboring central Hilton.
Additionally, during the forum, district officials will be on hand to answer questions about a $35 million capital improvement project and four-acre land purchase that will also be put to a vote in March.
Greek officials said the fields at the new stadium would also be made available to the broader community for club teams and other events.
The vote will take place on March 24.
