IOM Global Data Institute Thematic Note No. 3: Diasporas and their contributions

Diasporas and transnational communities are agents of change, fostering connections across fields and countries. Understanding their characteristics, needs and motivations is essential to empower them and leverage their support as partners in development and humanitarian responses.

This GDI thematic note provides an overview of available data on the diaspora. It includes population estimates, global engagement, and contributions to countries and transnational corporations. Five priority actions are presented to improve data on diasporas and their contributions until 2023 and beyond.
