This past week was indeed a truly historic week for our Salt Lake community and for Greek Orthodox faithful throughout the state of Utah, as we welcomed our Spiritual Father and Chief Shepherd, the Exarch of the Oceans Atlantic and Pacific, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros. of America. It has been over 20 years since the Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church of America visited Salt Lake City – that hierarchical thirst has been quenched by Your Eminence, who, like Jacob’s Well, grants us refreshment and rejuvenation spiritual.
Your Eminence, it is a challenge to express not only my personal joy, but above all the collective jubilation and emotion of all our faithful stewards. We are extremely grateful that you took the time to visit us, break bread, exchange ideas, and bless us with your true archpastoral love and concern. The beautiful and great hierarchical Divine Liturgy that we have just celebrated was the culmination of a week which saw Your Eminence received with great enthusiasm, respect and pomp by the government and religious leaders as well as by the pure love and reverence of our young people and our faithful Orthodox Christians.
The Salt Lake City faithful have an extraordinary pioneer spirit. It ensured the survival of Orthodoxy and Hellenism in this Mecca of Mormonism. Moreover, this indomitable spirit is the catalyst that has propelled our community to become a shining beacon of Christian faith and devotion, blossoming into one of the most vibrant and significant parishes not only in the Holy Metropolis of Denver , but I dare say of the entire archdiocese. of America. I am convinced that Your Eminence has experienced this first hand during these last days and that we can be a reason why Your Eminence boasts of His spiritual children in the West Mountain.
As the local Spiritual Father charged with caring for this flock in this vineyard of our Lord, I could not be more proud or grateful for what I have inherited here from my predecessors. Please allow me a moment to thank everyone who worked tirelessly to make this most historic visit a success. Although I cannot express my gratitude to everyone, I must highlight a few:
