With the deepening of diplomatic relations between Greece and Egypt in recent years, there has been a renewed emphasis on the ties between these two Mediterranean countries. One link returning to the spotlight is the historic Greek community in Egypt, which has maintained ties to homelands on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea for 200 years.
Steven Tagle and Professor Alexander Kitroeff join Thanos Davelis to look at this vibrant community and explore how their historic role as a bridge between Europe and the Middle East is even more important today.
Steven Tagle is a member of the Institute of Current World Affairs funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. He previously served as a speechwriter for the United States Embassy in Athens and as a Fulbright Scholar in Greece. Professor Alexander Kitroeff is a professor of history at Haverford College and has written extensively on the history of Greece and the Greek diaspora. He is the author of the book: The Greeks and the Creation of Modern Egypt.
