NAMED ‘The Muddy Archaeologist’, British ancient excavator and passionate historian Gillian Hovell will present at the upcoming Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society (ADFAS) conference on the Coffs Coast.
The conference is entitled “What did the Greeks and Romans do in terms of art?” » and will take place on Monday October 23 at the National Cartoon Gallery.

Keen to share her enjoyment of delving into history, Gillian shares examples of how archeology and history surround us, so much so that sometimes we don’t even realize how much Latin and certain aspects of ancient culture are infused into our lives.
“Ancient Greek art flourished for hundreds of years before the Romans took the art – sculpture, frescoes, vase painting, architecture and much more – and made it their own. appropriate,” said Gillian.

Gillian is an engaging speaker, award-winning author, historian and archaeologist who brings passion, color and depth to the here and now by visiting the past.
After graduating in Latin and Ancient History from the University of Exeter in the UK in 1983, Gillian spent several years working in BBC television on everything from live television to Number 10 programs for children, including drama series, science and feature films.
