There are new opportunities for the Cyprus issue, Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis told his American counterpart, Antony Blinken, on Friday.
Gerapetritis was referring to the inauguration of the UNSG’s personal envoy to Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar.
The two senior diplomats met as part of the US-Greek strategic dialogue, which was held on Friday in Washington DC.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting concluded, Gerapetritis said: “I also raised with Mr. Blinken the Cyprus issue, particularly in light of the inauguration of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations United. »
He added: “This presents an opportunity to draw attention to the Cyprus issue, with the aim of finally reaching a viable solution within the framework of UN Security Council resolutions.”
Meanwhile, a joint statement on the strategic dialogue between the United States and Greece affirmed the two countries’ commitment to promoting regional integration, the rule of law, good neighborly relations, stability and security in the Western Balkans and Eastern Mediterranean region.
Furthermore, he expressed support for cooperation according to the 3+1 format (involving Greece, Cyprus, Israel and the United States).
