Wildfire conditions at Mount Parnitha, north of Athens, are showing substantial improvement, firefighters announced Thursday evening, according to ANA.
A first fire broke out on Tuesday morning in the Fili region, west of Athens, at the foot of Parnitha, threatening the mountain’s national forest region.
However, wildfires reignited in Iliki, in the Zaltsa region of Boeotia, near the world heritage monastery of Hosios Loukas – a building of which was burned down on Wednesday – as well as in the villages of Stiri and Kyriaki at Distomo, also in Boeotia (Biotia). The Boeotia fires broke out for the first time on Wednesday in Stiri.
