Two sessions of the Boston Metropolis Winter Program were held recently, drawing many youth from many communities to the Metropolis Camp Center in Contoocook, NH.
Campers participated in gatherings focused on the Orthodox faith and Greek heritage and also participated in outings and excursions to Pats Peak Ski Resort for skiing. They also explored the area around Contoocook with what’s called the “Toyky Tour,” which included visits to Candle Design, Rogers Maple Syrup and Pine Lane Farm in Houston.
Given the high demand for enrollment in its fall camp program, MBC opened two winter camp sessions to allow more campers to experience faith and foster an appreciation of community Greek-American. This is the first-ever expansion of winter camp offerings in MBC’s history.
“This fall, approximately 100 campers remained on the waiting list because too many had registered to accommodate. We asked our staff to answer the call to serve and deliver two GOYA Winter Camps for the first time in MBC history…they answered! said Panos Coufos, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries and MBC Camp Director.
Note that the Metropolitan Boston Camp Center is located in the town of Contoocook in the state of New Hampshire, approximately two hours’ drive from Boston and approximately half an hour from the capital of New Hampshire, Concord. It is an idyllic place with a large lake, a chapel dedicated in honor of Saint George, the House of Hospitality, a dining room and more than thirty cabins for campers, resembling the setting of a small village.
The Hospitality House consists of thirty-five double rooms, each with a private bathroom, conference areas, a dining room, leisure areas and entertainment facilities.
