Greek culture. , proposed by the Greek Community of Melbourne, protothema.gr reports.
In recent years, there has been greater interest in research into quality of life and health issues related to dance. Traditional Greek dance has been proposed as an alternative form of exercise to prevent and improve various parameters in older adults, such as gait balance and cognitive function, as well as stress and emotion management at all ages.

Traditional Greek dance is closely linked to Greek culture and folk traditions, while for Greeks living abroad in the diaspora it remains an important way to connect with their heritage and engage with their identity. Research has shown that traditional Greek dance has much to offer, both from a cultural and quality of life perspective.

The presentation will discuss the relationship between dance and mainly traditional Greek dance with issues of quality of life and health, as it constitutes an inexhaustible source of well-being and cultural wealth emanating from ordinary people.

Maria uses traditional Greek dance as a way to improve quality of life and promote health. She collaborated with cardiologists in organizing appropriate dance exercise programs focused on improving heart function. She teaches traditional Greek dance in Greece and abroad during her studies and since 2020 she teaches traditional Greek dance at the University of Thessaly. Maria has presented her research at two international conferences and her motto is: “Our life is a dance whose rhythm and melody are determined by us”.
