Stores are scheduled to open on Sunday, January 21 due to winter sales in Greece, ANA reports.
Recommended store opening hours are 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on main streets and 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for shopping centers and department stores.
Retailers described consumer footfall during the sales as “slow,” which Athens Professional Chamber Vice President Nikos Kougioumtsis attributed to the high cost of living and the fact that the sales started almost immediately after the holidays.
“Rising food prices have reduced the income available for consumption and we see it in our cash registers,” Kougioumtsis said, adding that there was not much left after spending during the holidays.
