The Ecumenical Patriarchate on Friday thanked the prefect of Trebzon for signing the written authorization for the patriarchal liturgy at the historic Panaghia Soumela monastery on August 15, the feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, reports ANA.
In its statement Friday, the Ecumenical Patriarchate said it received the permit in writing the same day, thanking both the signatory and Turkish government authorities.
It is worth noting that Turkish authorities initially refused permission, but approval was first issued late last month.
