ANN ARBOR – From painting the rock to stepping over Block M on the Diag to guarding the Spartans’ gold letter before the University of Michigan-Michigan State University game, traditions are deeply rooted on the 206-year-old UM campus.
So deep, apparently, that UM has been named the most “bigoted” school in America, according to Broke Scholar.
“Strong communities of students and alumni who support each other and help create a sense of belonging are coveted by universities across the United States,” read a statement from Broke Scholar. “Essentially, these communities are full of fiery fans and alumni who are building a network that extends from a college acceptance letter through the end of their career and beyond.
“A completely harmless clan, though – there is a certain fanatical quality to the devotion. We dare to call this sectarian.
Although Southern schools dominate the top 25 list, UM earned the top spot for its academic excellence, school spirit, football attendance, large Instagram following and high retention rates.
According to Broke Scholar, its team ranked 198 of the best public and private universities in the country and evaluated them based on the following parameters:
-
Academic excellence
-
Community loyalty
-
Social prestige (think: Greek life)
-
School spirit
