March 25 marked the start of the day when thousands of UCF students in fraternities and sororities celebrated an annual tradition, Greek Week. This week’s theme, “Legends of the Greek Temple”, was based on the hit Nickelodeon series, Legends of the Hidden Temple. Despite the bad weather at the start of the week, participation in all Greek Week events was better than expected. Events included Greek Extrav, Greek Games, Block Party, Greeks Strolling for a Cause, Comedy Night and Greek Gala.

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority’s core values – brotherhood, scholarship, service and leadership – were highlighted throughout the week at various events. Community service, a big part of Greek life, played an important role throughout the week. Three organizations or programs have benefited from Greek efforts. At the Greeks Strolling for a Cause event, over $300 was raised through voting for Royalty Court’s fan favorite. At the end of the week, the Greek teams raised more than $12,700 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Finally, UCF Knights Helping Knights, a food and clothing pantry open to all UCF students, received more than 1,000 pounds of donated food.

At the Greek Gala, teams were recognized for their participation throughout the week and their contributions to the Greek community over the previous year. Chi Omega, Theta Chi, Sigma Lambda Gamma and Alpha Kappa Alpha were recognized as Chapter of the Year for their respective councils. The overall winner of Greek Week 2011 was the Tie Dye Triceratops, made up of Alpha Delta Pi, Beta Theta Pi, Kappa Sigma, Delta Sigma Theta and Phi Beta Sigma.

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is part of the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services.
